Lions Sign Winnipeg Blue Bomber Jonathan Hefney

One day after the season came to a close the Lions hit the free agent market, signing DB Jonathan Hefney from the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Hefney was a four year starter at the University of Tennessee and was named to the All-SEC Freshman team in 2004 and First-Team All-SEC in 2007. Sports Illustrated rated Hefney a 3.42 going into the NFL draft. A 3.42 according to the SI scale had him as a practice squad player, someone who needed to develop their skills on a practice squad or in NFL Europe.

They were exactly right as Hefney went undrafted and ended up in the CFL. There he was the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Year in 2009, and was named to both the 2009 Conference and League All-Star Teams.

Hopefully the Lion's scouts know what they're doing and Hefney can help this team similar to what Stefan Logan did for the Steelers after coming out of the CFL. The Lion's secondary struggled this year, but that was in large part to the fact that the D-Line couldn't get any pressure on the opposing QB.

Based on his Twitter I like him already: "Moms is a beast at the spades game right now.... pow im on it 2nite...."
